Toyota GR 86 develops a rasp thanks to TOM’s Racing

A handful of Japanese aftermarket shops came out with assorted modifications for the new Toyota GR 86 last week. TOM’s Racing, in particular, caught our attention with a rather unusual exhaust mod.

As you can hear in the video, the Barrel exhaust endows the engine with a rather different-sounding voice. ‘Raspy’ would perhaps do the timbre justice. The typical low rumbling isn’t there anymore, but higher-pitched tones can be heard clearly.

Note also the quad finisher tips stacked Lexus F-style, necessitating minor changes in the diffuser shape. Also found on the car are splitters for both ends and the sides, a rear spoiler and nice fender accents. The brakes and the rim are not OEM, either, and the body rocks a vivid orange paintjob that highlights its aerodynamic silhouette.

The new exhaust will hardly be to everyone’s liking, but there is no denying a certain measure of uniqueness. What are your thoughts?
