The British subsidiary of Toyota has come out with three unique GT86 cars it had built to celebrate the 24 Hours Le-Mans endurance race held on June 16-17, 2018. All three have inherited certain design features from Toyota racecars that had previously taken part in the race.
One of these is a blue-and-white GT86 styled after a Toyota TS010 issued in 1992 and packing a 3.5-liter, 700hp / 522kW V10 engine.
Another one is a white-and-red GT86 inspired by the Toyota GT-One (TS020). The prototype racecar featured a carbon-aluminum chassis and a 3.6-liter dual-turbo engine when. It has scored more than one victory in its category at the Le-Mans race.
The last one is a GT86 themed after the Toyota TS050 Hybrid which participated in the race in 2016. Packing an extreme 1,000-horsepower / 750-kW powertrain composed of two electric motors and a 500hp / 375kW turbocharged V6, it had shown excellent results and had held the leading position on the track most of the time. Alas, a breakdown at the next-to-last lap has prevented it from scoring the grand prize.
Toyota has pointed out that there is only one copy of any of the three vehicles.
