Toyota reveals the first pic of its next-gen Highlander

Toyota has shown us the first image of its fourth-generation Highlander SUV, but it might be not what you expected. Depicted on the photo is a 3D installation that consists of 200 parts suspended from the ceiling by means of a fishing line, creating a 3D illusion of a car. If you would rather look at the real thing instead, wait for the 2019 New York International Auto Show kicking off in a few days.

It took two months for the artist Michael Murphy to complete the work. He began by rendering an “exploded” 3D sketch of the SUV, then printed and painted all the parts, and finally arranged them in a certain order to create the optical illusion.

Many expect the next generation of the Toyota Highlander to be based on the TNGA platform, which basically means larger dimensions. The exterior of the car will be styled similarly to that of the latest RAV4. The car will likely keep its old 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, but it might get a performance boost in the next version.
