The Toyota Hilux and the Volkswagen Amarok aren’t just directly competing on the truck market; they are also the two best-selling pickups in Europe. CarWOW decided to see how well they would compare against each other in a straight line.

The Hilux packs a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel rated at 207 PS (204 hp / 152 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It also starts at £40,000 in the UK. The Amarok has an obvious power advantage with its 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel rated at 261 PS (257 hp / 192 kW) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft). It starts £3,000 above its rival.
