Hill climbing and drag racing are two different disciplines, but a duo of such wilderness-capable utility vehicles as the Land Cruiser and the Hilux can combine one with the other at their leisure.
If you think the Cruiser looks a bit odd here, it’s probably because you were used to seeing a rather more upmarket version of it. The two-door, short-wheelbase, mundane-looking spec is still available in some countries, though. In this video by carwow, it looks almost naked compared to the well-trimmed Hilux.
Both come powered by the same 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine capable of 207 PS (204 hp / 152 kW). However, the Hilux uses a different factory tune that enables it to make 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque compared to the Land Cruiser’s 420 Nm (310 lb-ft). It also rocks a rear differential lock and automatic transmission.
Will it be enough to win the race? Watch and find out!
