Toyota introduces the Hilux GR Sport for Europe

Toyota has unveiled a new modification of its Hilux truck for Old World countries. Called the GR Sport, it draws impression from its Dakar Rally counterpart and is due out this summer with revised appearance, tweaked suspension and a flagship price tag.

For the suspension, the company opts for single-tube shocks that combine optimal damping characteristics with fast reaction speeds. Heavy-duty springs replace standard ones at the front axle, and the ones in the back are also new, which Toyota claims guarantees superior steering ease and comfort. The high-end Hilux rides on blacked-out 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.

On the outside, the pickup sports a different front bumper with new fog light bezels, a skid plate, and an original radiator grille with black trim and the company name spelled out on it. Interior novelty boils down to sport seats, carbon fiber inserts and occasional red accents.

There is only one available engine, specifically a 2.8-liter TDI rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. The gearbox is six-speed automatic. Prices remain to be revealed.

A similar version of the Hilux is available in Japan, but the company never mentioned any suspension improvements for that version. Aside from that, two slightly sported-up Revo GR Sport editions are on sale in Thailand right now, one styled like an off-road truck and the other one like a city pickup (watch the video for details).
