The Toyota Hilux pickup has already been around for seven years, and the age begins to show despite two facelifts. GMG Double Eight, a tuning firm from Japan, suggests a rather unconventional way to keep things fresh – a face transplant from the more up-to-date Tundra model.
The plastic surgery looks rather seamlessly executed here, leaving the impression that this is what the pickup looked like straight from the factory. In addition to the octagonal honeycomb grille, the car gets a trio of yellow marker lights, a rear skid plate and upright air intake slits in the front bumper. A fake air scoop is also placed on the stock hood. If you wish, the tuner will additionally replace the brand lettering on the car with the most current version and widen the arches just a bit.
Everything stays stock down below, which in Japan means either a 2.4 TDI rated at 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) or its larger 2.8-liter cousin capable of 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW). The modifications listed above add up to the equivalent of U.S. $2,700.
