Toyota further sports up the Hilux GR Sport

The Australian branch of Toyota has worked its magic on the Hilux GR Sport, releasing a sportier version of the pickup for that market. Similar trucks have already debuted in other countries before (see video), but this one sports an important distinction.

Specifically, Toyota Australia says it comes powered by the most powerful diesel engine ever offered for this model Down Under. Having been boosted by an additional 10 percent, the 2.8-liter mill now churns out 224 PS (221 hp / 165 kW) along with 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission with track-friendly tweaks sends the momentum to the wheels.

Otherwise, the truck follows the same basic formula as its rally version: new suspension struts, shocks and springs, performance brakes and all-terrain tires. On the outside, the flared fenders, bumpers and radiator grille are all new.

A peek inside reveals sport seats, red accents and a mandatory Gazoo Racing steering wheel.
