YouTube channel Luxifer has posted a video report from a special event held at this year’s SEMA show in the memory of Ken Block, legendary stunt driver who passed away at the beginning of this year. 43 tuned cars hit the track at once and did a spectacular burnout together.
‘Luxifer’ is the name of a custom Toyota Hilux truck built in Australia and brought to the SEMA show this year. The tuners had its stock engine swapped out for a General Motors V8 and boosted to approximately 1,300 horsepower (950+ kilowatts).
The video shows a number of unusual and rather extreme-looking stunts performed as well, including ramp jumps and spectacular drifting around tricky obstacles. The latter include a loader doing a stand on its rear wheels, an airplane suspended from a crane, and a moving hovercraft. A Subaru GL Wagon custom-ordered by Travis Pastrana, Block’s lifetime partner in the stunt driving business, also makes an appearance on screen.
The 43 cars participating in the burnout scene are a reference to Block’s starting number seen on nearly all of his cars, including those he drove to official motorsports events. The Organizing Committee of the World Rally Championship is currently prohibiting the use of the starting number 43 on WRC vehicles in memory of the dearly departed rally legend.
