Toyota has unveiled the facelifted its Hilux truck lineup Down Under, landing it with updated looks and a new hybrid powertrain. This may be the last time the current generation gets refreshed.
Only two images of the pickup have been revealed so far (the silver ones in the gallery below). As you can see, it gets a redesigned bumper with side details and a bulky center trim, and a new radiator grille. The interior isn’t shown, but Toyota says that the color of the trim accents inside and outside will depend on your selected trim level.
For the powertrain, customers in Australia can pick from most pre-facelift options (diesel and petrol four-cylinder engines). The new mild hybrid powertrain comes from the European market and combines a 2.8-liter turbo diesel with a 48V starter-generator. The diesel mill alone pumps out 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. The electric starter can briefly add 16 PS (16 hp / 12 kW) and 65 Nm (48 lb-ft) when necessary.
According to Toyota, the new hybrid truck saves up to 10% fuel compared to its non-electrified counterpart. Perhaps more importantly, it runs quieter and experiences less vibration, which should translate into a longer service life.
In Australia, the pre-facelift Hilux (the red pickup in the gallery and the video here) is obtainable in RWD and AWD variants with manual or automatic for the transmission.
