Toyota picks Thailand for Hilux EV production

Toyota continues testing the all-electric variant of its Hilux pickup on the roads of Thailand, where it plans to start mass-making it in late 2025.

The latter was confirmed to Reuters by Pras Ganesh, the boss of Toyota Motor Asia, during the Future Mobility Asia summit earlier this month.

The all-electric Hilux REVO BEV truck debuted at an auto show in Thailand in December 2022. It has since been shown to select interested customers in Australia and tested as a route taxi in some countries, with extra seats installed in the bed. The company plans to offer it as a songthaew, among other body styles, which is a popular means of public transportation in Southeastern Asia.

Exact power and range numbers are still pending. Toyota let it slip a while ago that it was targeting 200 km (124 miles) per charge, but that sounds rather underwhelming by modern standards, even for an affordable electric vehicle.
