The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 range was born in the distant 1980s, and it still doesn’t look like the series is getting old. A few days ago, the Japanese car manufacturer came out with a special edition of the pickup truck, called the Land Cruiser 79 Namib.
The limited series borrows its name from the Namib Desert and has all it takes to conquer the worst off-road conditions. This includes 16-inch rims wrapped in meaty all-terrain tires, a mesh grille, a tow bar, a snorkel pipe, a reinforced front bumper with a bull bar, and auxiliary lighting.
Inside, the seats are wrapped in durable cloth covers, the ambient lighting is LED-based, and the glove compartment is cooled like a fridge. There are numerous convenient storage niches, and a multimedia system with a touch-enabled display and SatNav support occupies the dash center. Among other things, radios are available as a paid option.
Powering the Land Cruiser 79 Namib is a 4.5-liter turbo diesel engine rated at 205 hp (152 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission and AWD system, it takes the car up to 160 km/h (99 mph).
Prices in the South African Republic start at 893,600 Rand (~60,300 USD).
