A number of Japanese media have reported that the next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Land Cruiser Prado would premiere in April 2021 with hybrid powertrains.
With the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 in production for 13 long years now, more and more rumors crop up that a successor named the Cruiser 300 is coming soon. Earlier estimations said the reveal would be held in the fall next year, but the latest leak points towards spring as the likeliest timeframe.
According to the new data, the 300 will additionally debut in the GR Sport guise featuring new body kit, décor and suspension tweaks. No powertrain mods are expected.
The old 4.6-liter naturally aspirated gasoline V8 will allegedly retire in favor of a more nature-friendly 3.5-liter unit rated at 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) and 356 Nm (263 lb-ft) of torque. An electric motor will assist it for another 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW).
The V35A-FTS 3.5-liter V6 TT of the latest Lexus LS 500h is another possible candidate with its 415 PS (409 hp / 305 kW). Finally, a 3.3-liter turbo diesel is likewise on the rumored list, albeit without specs. A 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen is pretty much guaranteed as far as features are concerned.
The next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser Prado should emerge in the winter of 2022 first as a turbo diesel spec (watch the video for the current-gen counterpart), and later as a hybrid SUV powered by a 2.4-liter turbo-four and an electric starter. The latter is expected in the second half of 2023.
