The Australian subdivision of Toyota has rolled out a Land Cruiser 70 Series converted into an electric off-roader for BHP Billiton, a local mining corporation.
The car let go of its original 4.5-liter diesel engine in favor of an electric motor and a traction battery. The frame, axles, suspension and AWD system remained without modifications.
Toyota said it would reveal the performance specifications of the Cruiser 70 EV in the coming months, and in the meantime, the car will be put to test at a nickel mine in Western Australia.
