Toyota Land Cruiser 200 drops from the lists in Japan

Toyota is no longer taking orders for the Land Cruiser 200 in Japan. Shipments only go to buyers who had placed their order in advance, and it looks like the next-gen Cruiser 300 (name not confirmed) is right around the corner.

Despite no official information whatsoever from Toyota, it seems obvious that the company has retired the 200 model. Anonymous sources claiming inside knowledge of its affairs say the new Cruiser 300 will become available to pre-order in April, go into production in May, and start shipping in summer. None of this has been confirmed or denied so far.

Rumor has it that the new Land Cruiser will come based on the TNGA platform, ditch its body-on-frame construction in favor of an affordable unitized body, and barely change in terms of dimensions (L: +20mm/+0.8in; W: +5mm/+0.2in; H: -10mm/-0.4in; WB: +50mm/+2in).

Engines might include the V35A-FTS twin-turbo six-cylinder with 3.5 liters of displacement and a new 3.3-liter turbo diesel. A hybrid powertrain is also expected based on a 3.5-liter gas engine and a single electric motor.
