Toyota Motor Company began registering the first pre-orders for the J300 Land Cruiser in July, and offline sales officially started this month. Despite this, some of those who ordered the new SUV will have to brace up and wait.
According to Toyota, dealerships have so far collected over 20,000 pre-orders, and some of those fell on limited editions that their buyers will be able to get only in 2 to 4 years’ time. To prevent the SUVs from hitting the resale market, the company requires all buyers to sign agreements according to which they are prohibited from selling their cars within the first year of ownership.
Powertrain-wise, you can choose between two V6 turbo options – a 3.5-liter gasoline one good for 409 PS (403 hp / 301 kW) and 650 Nm (478 lb-ft) of torque and a 3.3-liter diesel one rated at 309 PS (305 hp / 227 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). In both cases, a ten-speed automatic transmission sends the power to all four wheels thanks to permanent AWD. The cabin can accommodate five or seven people.
The gasoline version of the SUV currently costs between ¥5.1 and ¥7.7 million, while the diesel one is somewhat more expensive at ¥7.7 - ¥8.0 million. The maxed-out GR Sport trim offers sophisticated bumpers on both ends, a different radiator grille, tinted headlights, unpainted body kit parts made of plastic, special wheels, and badges.
