Toyota has received so many orders for certain Land Cruiser 300 trims that the waiting list is now four years long. Ongoing microchip shortage worsens the already dire situation.
The carmaker has accepted around 20,000 pre-orders for the car starting from August 2, 2021. Around 90% of domestic buyers opted for the sported-up ZX and GR trims, which unfortunately take the longest to produce.
Making matters worse is the fact that the Land Cruiser 300 is not even being produced at all at the moment – the finished batches continue to be shipped, but no new cars roll off the assembly lines. The issue lies in the ongoing semiconductor crisis. As a result, some markets are left completely without new cars – for instance, Australia only has showroom samples, but no real Land Cruisers to sell.
The Land Cruiser 300 will not be making it to the United States, because it will be replaced with a more upmarket car there – the Lexus LX, which is based on the same chassis and tech. Of course, the LX has also been delayed due to the reasons discussed above.
