The Japanese companies Tonox and Flex have combined their efforts to bring a seedy and rust-eaten Toyota Land Cruiser back to life. The SUV rolled off the line in the 1980s and needed a full rebuild, which it received along with an all-electric powertrain. The result will be exhibited at the show in Tokyo next week, but here’s what it looks like.
Tonox used its bodywork expertise to strip the car down to the last screw and replace all degraded parts. The rest of the body was painstakingly cleaned from rust, repaired and sealed against further damage.
In turn, the guys over at Flex donated some accessories from their Renoca catalog – alloy wheels shod in off-road rubber, LED headlights, a chrome front grille with a retro vibe to it, and matching bumpers.
The powertrain specifications will hopefully be announced at the show. All we know right now is that the ICE powertrain has been deleted and an electric motor was put in. Remarkably enough, the tuners have kept the part-time AWD alive: the driver can easily switch between RWD and four-wheel drive on the go.
