Toyota’s main novelty heading to the Japan Mobility Show will be the Land Cruiser Se, the first all-electric SUV in the Land Cruiser family and a prototype that may eventually reach production – although it remains to be seen whether it does.
On the outside, the off-roader looks neither like the Land Cruiser 300 nor like the latest Prado, save maybe for the signature protruding parts near the c-pillars. It sports slim headlights, a fake grille slab, prominent fender flares and black lower body trims. The darkened pillars lend the roof a floating look, and there is a spoiler at the rear end. Video cameras substitute for the side mirrors.
The concept car is 5,150 mm (201.1 inches) long, 1,990 mm (77.7 in) wide and 1,705 mm (66.6 in) tall and has 3,050 mm (119.1 in) between the axles. Its cabin seats seven people across three rows. The powertrain is unspecified.
As a unibody electric car lacking a proper frame, the Land Cruiser Se is mainly designed for urban driving. It is said to handle best on well-paved roads, but can hold its own off the grid as well.
