A compact body-on-frame SUV patented last fall as the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be officially introduced this December, says Carscoops. Both its frame and platform could be sourced form the Hilux Champ truck.
Back when the company patented the Cruiser FJ, it neglected to reveal whether it would be a serious off-roader or just a unibody crossover. Sources are now reporting that the former is the case. Apparently, Toyota is targeting the Ford Bronco Sport with this new release.
Earlier rumors also speculated that the Cruiser FJ would debut in hybrid and all-electric variants, among others. The new reports contradict them, saying the car would stick to internal combustion engines. Carscoops believes that the likely candidate is the 2TR-FE engine already used in the Land Cruiser Prado Series. It is a 2.7-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit.
