Reports: 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to lose the V6

Toyota has already shared the first teaser pics of an SUV likely to be the next Land Cruiser Prado. It evidently shares the platform with the Lexus GX (see the rest of the gallery and the video here), but Drive Australia points out that the engines may not be up to everyone’s expectations.

Referencing some leaked factory documents, the magazine claims the new Prado will ship with the 2.7-liter naturally aspirated petrol four-pot that the entry-level Hilux model ships with in some countries. It will also allegedly get a 2.8-liter turbo diesel and a 2.4-liter petrol turbo for the top spec. The 3.4-liter turbocharged V6 of the Lexus GX will not be offered, though.

While not official yet, the 2.4T spec may end up bundled with an electric motor, like in some other Lexus GX and Toyota Tacoma versions. Those hybrids produce up to 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW).

As for why Toyota decided to axe the V6 version, Drive Australia’s guess is that it needs to distance its offer from the more upmarket GS.

The new Prado 250 is set to reach mass production this November, with the sales slated for the beginning of 2024. Toyota may reveal it in full later this summer or in the fall.
