Toyota used to produce compact coupes called Levin for the Japanese domestic market once, but recycled that name for the China-spec Toyota Corolla six years ago. Starting next month, this new “Levin” will be available in a new trim version called Sport.
Unlike the standard Levin/Corolla shown in the video, the Sport version sports different bumpers with black inserts, as well as a Toyota badge on the hood cover rather than the radiator grille.
The cabin comes wrapped in imitation leather and boasts contrast-rich details. The rear sofa gets fixed headrests, just like the front seats.
The tech stays largely unchanged, but the exhaust now has a brighter, more pronounced sound. Customers are still offered a choice between the old 1.2-liter turbocharged engine worth 116 hp (86 kW) and the hybrid powertrain composed of a 1.8-liter non-turbo mill and an electric motor (max. 122 hp / 91 kW). The former makes use of a V-belt variable-speed drive, whereas the latter utilizes an electro-mechanical CVT.
The Toyota Levin Sport will go on sale next month likely priced considerably above the standard sedan, which begins at U.S. $16,000 equiv.
On a side note, the FAW Toyota factory in China produces the Corolla sedan for the local market as well. The Levin model, while technically identical, is being produced by GAC Toyota and benefits from the sportier design of Corolla’s hatchback and wagon versions.
