Toyota says farewell to Mark X

Toyota Motomachi factory has churned out the last copy of the Mark X sedan/saloon, successor of the iconic Mark II. Two hundred employees were present at the farewell party, including Mark II CTO Takayuki Tomohara and factory manager Hiroyoshi Ninoyu.

The original Mark II emerged as far back as 1968 and has since been the staple RWD sedan in the Toyota lineup. The latest generation saw the daylight in 2000, and the Mark X came out four years after that.

Toyota has produced a total of 6.5 million units of the Mark II and 363.5 thousand of the Mark X. The recent SUV fad caused a major sales hit, but people who wanted to drive a stick-shift, RWD sedan still went for the Mark X GRMN. The limited edition sold 100 units in 2014 and 350 in 2019.
