This bizarre ride is none other than the TMI VM180 Zagato, which Modellista produced twenty years ago for Japan. Based on the mid-engined Toyota MR-S, it is one out of 100 units produced, and will soon be available to bid for in Japan.
The windshield and the mirror are pretty much the only OEM parts discernible, while the rest of the parts have been designed from scratch with the Zagato for inspiration. For instance, the sports car boasts weird clusters of headlights seamlessly integrated into the new front bumper and apron. Large air intakes can be seen near the rear fenders, and the entire rear end, including brake lights is new. This particular example comes equipped with the optional hardtop.
The cabin looks more or less standard except for bucket seats and a special gear lever. Elsewhere, the car features custom wheels and an aftermarket infotainment system.
Power comes from a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine boosted from 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) to 158 PS (156 hp / 116 kW) and 178 Nm (131 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is five-speed, single-clutch.
The TMI VM180 Zagato on sale has slightly over 40,000 kilometers (25,000 miles) on the odometer despite being two decades old. We are not aware of any price estimations.
