Japanese tuning house Modellista has been in the business of tuning Toyota cars for several decades now, and produced 150 units of the Toyota MR2 “Caserta” on the verge of the millennium. One of these is now up for grabs in the United States.
The car has the serial number 16 of 150, looks to be in good overall condition, and gets its momentum from a 1.8-liter four-banger sending 138 PS (136 hp / 101 kW) and 171 Nm (126 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The transmission is five-speed automatic, although five-speed manual was also an option at the time.
At the front end, the rarity resembles the Fiat Barchetta somewhat, while the rear end gives off faint Ferrari 360 vibes (largely because of the air opening). 16-inch retro wheels fill out the arches nicely thanks to a 20 mm (0.8”) reduction in ride height.
Rounding off the list of modification is a deluxe interior awash with natural leather and wood. The safety belts are finished in a different color for greater contrast, and the gear level is shaped like a golf ball.
The convertible could be yours for $37,200. Watch the attached video review by Doug DeMuro if you would like a tour of the standard car, which was also known as the Toyota MR-S Spyder in the United States.
