Place Your Bets: 600-HP Toyota MR2 vs. OEM McLaren 540C

Despite the continuing rumors about the Gen.4 Toyota MR2 being not too far away from launch, reality proves different. The Japanese carmaker has all but abandoned the model. Seeing what the 27-year-old sports car can be capable of with a tweaked engine makes one wish it were continued.

The tuner insists that the MR2 featured in the video holds onto its original 3SGTE engine, albeit boosted from 200 to around 600 horsepower (150 to 450 kilowatts, respectively). No in-depth details are provided.

The drag race sees the 1993MY Toyota go up against the mighty McLaren 540C, which makes do with a stock 3.8-liter V8 rated at 540 PS (532 hp / 397 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. The British supercar pales in comparison on paper, but there’s no avoiding the fact that unlike the MR2, it was designed to handle that kind of power from the factory.

So, which one would you keep your fingers crossed for? Watch the video and be surprised!
