Video: Shed a tear for iconic cars abandoned on the streets of Japan

YouTuber Dino DC has posted a sad video dedicated to a large number of revered automotive classics that deserved a better treatment than standing out in the open for decades, abandoned by their owners.

During his visit to Japan, the vlogger has managed to investigate the background of several cars he encountered and learn about their history. For example, he found out that the owner of a seemingly forsaken Toyota MR2 just didn’t have the money to repair it after a major breakdown. He felt nostalgic about the car and couldn’t part with it, so he just left it parked nearby.

The video also features a Toyota Altezza (a.k.a. Lexus IS) and a Mazda RX-7, both of which are literally embedded in the ground from standing still for years. Both are wearing non-stock wheels. A Nissan Skyline Kenmeri 2000 GTX nearby is also not a factory-stock example and actually looks kind of cool, but apparently not cool enough for its owner to rescue it from rust and oblivion.

Dino DC goes on to discover a Skyline GT-R V-Spec II R34, one out of only 1,800 units made for the world, and a number of other valuable rarities like a Ford RS2000, a Honda NSX, a BMW E30 M3, and a BMW E34 M5. All of these could probably be sold for quite a bit of money, but their owners either passed away before they could do so or just couldn’t be bothered.
