Is this restored 1986 Toyota Hilux pickup worth $47.5k to you?

Restoring old cars is a challenging and risky endeavor that sometimes ends in profit and other times in huge losses. Do you think this Toyota Pickup Xtra Cab was worth overhauling for the price?

The Pickup Xtra Cab – known in a number of countries as the Hilux – came out back in 1986 and has recently been restored to peak condition. It received a historically accurate beige exterior, fresh chrome details and a considerable suspension lift. The cabin received a stylish makeover in beige and brown fabric and vinyl. No modern equipment was added except for a rather dated-looking MP3 player.

The tuner also took care to overhaul the stock 2.4-liter engine capable of 105 hp (78 kW) and 185 Nm (136 lb-ft) of torque. An automatic transmission still sends the power to all four wheels.

Asking price is where things get interesting. The truck with 256,000 kilometers (159,000 miles) under its belt is on sale for a whopping $47,500. You could buy two 2021 Toyota Tacomas for a comparable sum of money, or a nearly maxed-out Tundra of the same model year.
