Toyota announces Proace City EV, sales start in Q4 2021

The leading Japanese automaker plans to increase its EV share in Europe sales to 10% in four years with the assistance of Stellantis Group. The Toyota Proace City will be the next in line to get full electrification.

PSA and Toyota have a history of teaming up on electric LCV production, some examples being the Citroen Berlingo, the Opel Combo, and the Peugeot Rifter/Partner. The Proace City utilizes the same platform as these, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it now has an all-electric option.

From a purely technical point of view, the car is little different from other light commercial vans. You can choose the max load you need (up to 800 kg / 1,760 lbs) or specify a passenger minivan (Verso). The commercial version can be between 4.4 and 4.75 meters long, while the Verso can be configured with five or seven seats.

The only electric motor drives the front axle, pumping out 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) in Power mode. Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes between 11.2 and 11.7 seconds in this mode. Switching to Normal drops the output to 109 PS (107 hp / 80 kW) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft), whereas Eco clamps down on power with 82 PS (81 hp / 60 kW) and 180 Nm (132 lb-ft).

A 50-kWh traction battery sits beneath the floor and gives you between 260 and 280 kilometers (161.6 – 174 miles) of WLTP-rated driving range. Chargers are available in power ratings up to 100kW.

Standard equipment includes an infotainment system with an 8-inch touch-enabled display, a driver assist package, a digital gauge cluster, and an electronic parking brake.

Sales of the Toyota Proace City Electric in Europe will start in the last quarter of this year.
