Toyota has facelifted its ProAce and ProAce City models, added a new large LCV named ProAce Max to the lineup, and announced a diesel-electric version of the Hilux pickup. Here are the details.
The three ProAce vehicles introduced this week have all been co-designed with Stellantis Group based on the existing French vans. The Max version in particular is a rebadged Peugeot Boxer (a.k.a. Citroen Jumper, Opel Movano, Fiat Ducato, and Ram ProMaster). It will go on sale with two wheelbase lengths to choose from and three body heights. The highest version will offer 17 cubic meters of cargo space.
The automaker promises us an up-to-date infotainment system and electronic assists. It also looks like the ProAce Max will go all-electric in Europe. The only powertrain announced so far has a 110-kWh battery, offers 420 km (261 miles) of range, and supports 150kW fast charging.
As for the ProAce City and the regular ProAce, they are rebadged Peugeot Partner and Expert, respectively. Aside from a different front end, both look indistinguishable from their French-made counterparts. The respective cargo capacity is 4.4 and 6.6 cubic meters.
The passenger van lineup known as the Verso has also been updated. The smallest MPV now covers up to 350 km (217 miles) on a charge, while the mid-sized LCV covers 330 km (205 miles) before charging becomes necessary.
The diesel-electric Hilux remains to be fully revealed. All we know is that it combines a 2.8-liter turbo diesel rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) with a 48V starter generator helping the main engine with acceleration and reducing fuel consumption by around 10%. The six-speed automatic transmission stays the same.
