Toyota RAV4 Hybrid arrives in Great Britain

Customers in the UK may get their Toyota RAV4 PHEV with as many as 46 miles (74 kilometers) of WLTP-rated electric range.

The new electrified SUV should interest even the more conservatively minded British drivers thanks to its excellent battery range. 46 miles should be enough for most urban driving, and having a high-power charger at home will eliminate the need to go looking for charging terminals elsewhere.

The powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder driving the front axle (182 hp / 136 kW), two electric motors driving the rear axle, and a CVT. The total output amounts to 302 hp (225 kW). The lithium-ion battery is quite large at 18.1 kilowatt-hours and is found under the floor level.

Despite the battery size, the trunk can still hold up to 520 liters (18.36 cubic feet) of luggage, and the rear row legroom is also unaffected.

The only catch is the price: at £47,395 and above, the RAV4 PHEV is priced substantially higher than the part-electric Land Rover Discovery Sport.
