Mitsuoka Motors has announced the sales start of its Buddy SUV on June 24, 2021, but don’t think you can just buy it without getting into a queue spanning a few years.
The car will only be available in Japan, Mitsuoka says, adding that it will only be able to produce around 150 units per year. With 545 orders already taken, this means you will get your copy in the spring of 2023 at the earliest if you order now. The good news is that the company says it will double the production soon.
The Mitsuoka Buddy debuted last November as a crossover SUV based on the latest Toyota RAV4, but with styling of its own. The front fascia reminds us of the Chevrolet K5 Blazer dating back to the 1970-80s, and the taillights give off distinct Cadillac vibes.
Mitsuoka Motors accepts all RAV4 versions for conversion, including the 2.0-liter petrol CVT one and the 2.5-liter hybrid one. The drive can be on the front axle or both.
Prices begin from 4,697,000 Japanese Yen, whereas the standard RAV4 costs only 2,743,000 Yen.
