Toyota seems to be considering resurrecting the ‘Stout’ model name unused since the 1970s, Drive reports quoting its own sources. According to the publication, the company patented the name again in Argentina, apparently intending to produce a pickup truck based on the modern RAV4 tech.
If true, then chances are good the automaker will resort to the same practices as its colleagues. For example, the new Ford Maverick runs on the Escape platform, while the Hyundai Santa Cruz utilizes Tucson underpinnings.
A similar recipe could be used for the revived Stout. If it reaches the Latin American market, it will have to compete against the likes of the Chevrolet Montana, Fiat Strada and Renault Duster Oroch.
In its publication, Drive also quotes Toyota executives from different countries saying such a pickup wouldn’t be out of the question. In early summer, a representative of the company openly admitted that there was room in its lineup for a smaller truck than the Hilux or the Tacoma. Inspired by the market success of the Ford and Hyundai light pickups, Toyota may as well decide to launch its own version.
