The body-on-frame SUV Toyota Sequoia has come a long way from 60,000 – 70,000 annual units sold in the United States in mid-2000s to just 10,289 units in 2019. This led the automaker to replace it with a new TNGA-F based, non-V8 model coming in a couple of years. In the meantime, however, the Sequoia gets another minor update hearing into 2021.
The main novelty is the Nightshade Edition, which emerges in a run of 2,500 units based on the middle spec called “Limited”. Buyers are offered three body colors - Blizzard Pearl, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Midnight Black Metallic – but the 20-inch wheels, grille, mirrors, moldings and badges stay black regardless of your choice. Seats come wrapped in black leather, and prices start at U.S. $60,120 (RWD) and $63,345 (AWD).
The 2021 Toyota Sequouia holds onto its usual 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 386 hp (288 kW) and 544 Nm (400 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is six-speed automatic, and the optional AWD system incorporates a Torsen center differential along with a two-speed transfer case. Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, reversing camera, blind zone monitoring, and lane control.
