A drag race between
the Toyota Supra and the BMW Z4 was something we have been waiting to see for
years. Both sports cars are based on the same architecture and come powered by
the same 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine good for 340 hp (261 kW) and 500 Nm (369
lb-ft) of torque. Their suspension and drivetrain settings are the only thing
that differentiates the two.
On paper, the
latest-gen Toyota Supra (A90) runs 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.3 seconds. Its
Bavarian rival needs an extra 0.2 seconds to accomplish the same, partly due to
its lower power-to-weight ratio. Specifically, the Z4 weighs 15 kilograms (33
lbs) more than the Supra.
Theoretical specs
aside, hit ‘Play’ and see how both fare in real world conditions. If you would
rather have us spoil the ending for you, though, read on. In short, the Japanese
coupe pulls ahead mere seconds from the start and keeps increasing the gap
until the finish line. A flawless victory for the Supra, then.
