A 27-year-old Toyota Supra fetches 137,200 USD

Sotheby’s has managed to find the buyer for an almost-new 1993 Toyota Supra sports car who agreed to pay the U.S. $137,200 asking price.

The coupe rolled off the lines as part of the Gen.4 Premier Edition series, as evidenced by the badge inside the cabin. Other than that, though, it is completely stock, if perhaps unusually well preserved for its age. Its only owner has barely driven it for 10,000 miles (16,000 km) in the dry and warm climate of Colorado, USA, where corrosion and mold could not set in after 27 years.

Generally, whenever a car such as this one goes up on sale, it comes either in a thoroughly restored state or in a state requiring further restoration. This was a welcome exception to the rule, the auction holders agreed.

The iconic twin-turbocharged 2JZ engine still ships its standard amount of power to the six-speed manual transmission, another fact that many Supra fans welcome. The currently available A90 Supra packs a BMW engine and only supports automatic transmission.

In related news, an even rarer Toyota sports car – a 2000GT – will be auctioned off in May 2020. The Japanese automaker has only produced 351 units from 1967 through 1970.
