Europe’s fastest Supra crashes on a half-mile strip

The famous 1,500-horsepower A80 Supra built by German tuner TurboZentrum smashed against both guardrails after its pilot allegedly evaded a sudden obstacle.

Yalcin Belen specifies that he was going in the fourth gear at around 220 km/h (137 mph) when an unidentified object popped up on the road ahead. He was unfamiliar with the recently opened drag strip and therefore chose to dodge the object. What happened later could most likely be attributed to the narrowly specialized dragster tires losing traction after the maneuver, sending the car on a semi-circular collision course with one guardrail and then another.

TurboZentrum adds that weather could be partly to blame for the incident, the asphalt apparently barely dried up before the race. Whatever the actual case, Belen escaped the incident with his life and health intact, while the car was towed away for repairs, expected to return to the track next year at best.

The video of the incident has amassed quite a few sarcastic comments pointing out the perceived lack of obstacles on the track prior to collision. Hit Play and tell us what you think!
