Wald overhauls the A90 Supra with radical styling tweaks

It is no secret that the Toyota A90 Supra often gets compared to the BMW Z4, with which it shares the powertrain. In its latest project, Wald International made an attempt to distance the Japanese sports coupe from its Bavarian organ donor.

The result is being advertised as a ‘Formula One look’, but we would refrain from commenting on that bit. Instead, let’s just note that most change took place in the regions of both fasciae and the rear diffuser with openings for stacked dual exhaust tips at either side. Wald used solid bodywork to conceal the outrageously fake air intakes at the rear fenders – a welcome modification – and flared the arches by an additional 45 mm (1.8”) on either side. As if concerned that the styling would be dismissed as too tame, it added a giant twin-blade wing to the rear end.

Whether you like this extreme take on the A90 Supra or not is your own business, of course. We find it hit-or-miss, with some solid design decisions and some obvious shortcomings. Perhaps most importantly, BMW is the one thing this car is decidedly not, so it could be taken as a statement of sorts.
