Gazoo Racing and Lego have chosen to celebrate 35 years of the Supra by building a 1:1 reproduction of it from Lego bricks. Oh, and it has a functioning powertrain, too.
The whole project took 2,400 hours to complete, and the team had to source the wheels and some chassis components from the real car. Inside, the driver’s seat, the steering wheel and the dashboard are real, too, while the passenger’s seat, the center console and the headlights are made of plastic set parts.
The extensive use of plastic resulted in the replica weighing in at 250 kilos (550 pounds) above the stock car. Powered by an electric motor, it can accelerate to a top speed of 28 km/h (17.5 miles per hour).
Until October 11, 2021, the model will remain exhibited at Legoland Japan, after which it will proceed to travel across the country along with the Super GT racing series.
On a side note, Toyota began using the name ‘Supra’ 43 years ago, but only as a ‘sporty’ modifier to the Celica Supra. In 1986, it became a standalone sports car.
