Few mass-produced engines in the world can be reliably boosted to five or more times their OEM power output, but the fourth-gen Toyota Supra has just such an engine. When maxed out, can it outrun the Tesla Model S Plaid, the electric hypercar killer?
The owner of the Supra installed a sequential transmission and modified the trusty 2JZ engine to output 1,500+ horsepower (1,100+ kW) or raw power to the wheels, implying 1,700+ HP (1,250+ kW) at the crank. As a result, the coupe finishes its half-mile run at 336 km/h (209 mph), baffling random observers with its near-stock appearance.
Going up against the extreme sleeper is a Tesla Model S Plaid, which packs 1,034 PS (1,020 hp / 750 kW) from a trio of electric motors. Having debuted this year, the upstart managed to launch in two seconds and outrun most hypercars on the drag strip, barring only the Rimac Nevera so far.
But maybe a sufficiently tuned Supra can show taillights to the Tesla, after all? Have faith and watch the video!
