Many traditional aftermarket and tuning shops have a self-imposed limitation in that they avoid carrying out builds they deem too controversial. For example, stuffing a 2JZ six-banger into a Ford Transit definitely qualifies as such. And then there is Yung Lee Auto, from Malaysia, which laughs over such trifles.
The tuner’s YouTube page lists 13 Supra swaps in total, but we are only going to highlight three of them for the sake of this article. The first video shows the mill installed into a Ford Transit, which then fires it up and proceeds to go like a sports car. It does seem that the extra performance helps it a lot.
The second vid sees the same engine make its way under the hood of a Nissan Skyline R34. As outrageous as the idea is for purists, it kind of works, and Yung Lee assures us that the Godzilla’s dismantled RB25DET found use in yet another project.
The third and final clip is dedicated to a Mazda RX-8 that no longer has a Wankel engine in the bay. There is a Supra mill toiling there instead (a 1JZ, to be specific). We struggle to imagine a diehard Mazda fan buying an RX-8 only to have it swapped to a Supra mill, but since the shop has been going on like this for years, someone must have been paying for these swaps all along.
What’s your take on this? Blasphemy or harmless fun?
