Toyota Supra tech specs revealed

The Japanese automotive giant Toyota has revealed another photo of the new Supra, a hi-end rear-driven sport coupe.

The street-legal vehicle is depicted standing next to the GR Supra Racing Concept with its massive rear wing and diffusor. What this could mean is unclear. Why would Toyota place a prototype racecar on a photo featuring its street-legal Supra series? Could this mean that the latter gets a performance version soon?

According to the official announcement, the series will ship with a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder turbo engine. Its exact performance isn’t being disclosed so far, but your best guess would be around 340 hp (254 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb×ft) of torque. The only available transmission is semi-automatic.

The vehicle utilizes the BMW Z4 platform, but has substantial differences in the body and the chassis.

The rear-driven sport coupe should celebrate its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. The vehicle will wear impervious cladding film and be piloted by Tetsuya Tada, the chief engineer of the project.

Sales will begin in 2019. Prices won’t be revealed until later, but a senior manager of Toyota let it slip a while ago that the new Supra was going to cost considerably more than current flagship, the GT86 coupe.
