TRD has released a suspension lift kit for the Tacoma truck in the USA, putting in Bilstein shocks, 43mm (1.7”) of extra ride height, and Tacoma TRD Pro styling cues.
Once upgraded, the pickup has 282 millimeters (exactly 11 inches) of ground clearance. This improves the approach angle by 3.1° to 32°, the departure angle by 0.5° to 24°, and the breakover angle by 1.6° to 23°.
The package comes in at $1,350 USD without installation, which routinely takes 4-5 hours. Ordering is only available through authorized dealerships, and the only compatible spec has AWD and a 3.5-liter V6 producing 278 hp and 265 pound-feet of torque. Stretched and TRD Pro trucks are not supported. Warranty amounts to 36 months or 36,000 miles (ca. 58,000 km) for new vehicles and 12 mo. / 12,000 mi / 19,000 km for used ones. You may obtain a base-spec Tacoma AWD 3.5 for U.S. $31,975.
The main advantage of the kit is that it is compatible with the Toyota Safety Sense package. Unlike some third-party kits, it does not interfere with the proper functioning of such useful driver aids as adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, pedestrian recognition, automatic emergency braking, and lane control.
The Toyota Tacoma has remained the best-selling truck of its kind in the United States for the past 16 years, coming ahead of the Ford Ranger and the Chevrolet Colorado.
