The Japanese automaker has uploaded a short film dedicated to the production process of its GR Yaris hatchback, the car with the world’s most powerful three-cylinder engine under the hood.
The company emphasizes that the GR Yaris is a full-fledged sports car and not just a high-end trim version of the standard Yaris. Aside from its new 3-cyl. turbo engine rated at 272 hp (203 kW), it has four-wheel drive and a much more rigid body without rear doors. There are around 200 extra welding points throughout, and 11 extra meters (36 feet) of bonded joints. A professional rally racing team took part in designing the car.
Toyota’s in-house tuner Gazoo Racing fully controls the assembly line where the hot hatches are being put together. The facility uses much more manual labor than the other Toyota-controlled sites and is reportedly fitted with everything needed to produce millions of sports cars.
