Japanese TRA Kyoto team is quite famous for its gaudy, over-the-top body kits that even JDM tuners sometimes find too extreme. One look at this Toyota GR Yaris should be enough to see why.
TRA Kyoto takes the already quite sporty hot hatch and turns it into a hardcore rally vehicle that seems eager to get off the leash and straight into a World Rally Championship season. There is an enormous gap at the front end to ensure the intercooler breathes freely, as well as side canards and a large splitter down below.
The rear is where the most outrageous mod resides. The rear wing you can see in our gallery proved so humongous for the model it could not quite sit on the D-pillars alone and needed two additional supports to hold it in place. The end result may not look very clean or clever, but hey – it does have that “forced measure” look about it, which is what the tuner likely aimed for.
Those who consider such tuning too extreme or out-of-place may be justified in their own way, but let’s not forget that Gazoo Racing doesn’t keep a clean record, either. Its GR Yaris accessory list notably includes quad (!) tailpipes, which is humorous when you remember that the hatchback only has three cylinders under the hood.
