Toyota caught testing a new GR Yaris

A mysterious new Toyota GR Yaris has been spotted running laps on the Nürburgring, with some conspicuous disguise elements covering its front fenders where additional air intakes could be.

A vehicle with the same state registration number was first caught on camera on the ‘Ring last fall – watch the video if you missed that one. However, back then it had a massive rear wing and a rather sophisticated aero kit, whereas the prototype sighted yesterday had nothing like that on it. Could it be the new Yaris GRMN? We don’t know, and Toyota is in no hurry to confirm rumors.

The previous-gen hot hatch emerged four years ago and utilized a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a stick shift for 212 PS (209 hp / 156 kW). With a class-leading weight-to-power ratio of 5.35 kg / 1 hp, it could go 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.3 seconds and reach 230 km/h (143 mph). Production was limited across all markets, with only 400 units sold in Europe and so on.
