Japanese website Time Attack has posted test results of a tuned Toyota GR Yaris driven on Tsukuba Raceway. The car was able to complete the 2,045-meter (1.27-mile) long track in 58 seconds 573 milliseconds, which is 0.788s faster than the record set by the Nissan GT-R Nismo in 2019.
Tuners worked with a stock three-door GR Yaris hatchback equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. The mill is capable of 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) and is said to be the world’s most powerful production three-pot. Garage G-Force found a way to boost it further to 360 PS (355 hp / 265 kW).
Further modifications were made in suspension and aerodynamics. 265-millimeter wide Yokohama Advan semi-slicks were used for the race, 40 mm (1.6”) wider than stock tires.
The Nissan GT-R Nismo is around 250 PS (246 hp / 182 kW) more powerful than the tuned Yaris, but weighs around 500 kg (1,100 lbs) more.
