Toyota teams up with Suzuki and Daihatsu on a sports car project

The Japanese automotive trio is working together on a sporty coupe with interaxle engine layout and a petrol turbo under the hood, BestCarWeb reports.

Suzuki is working on the drivetrain, which is going to be based on a turbocharged three-cylinder engine rated at 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque. A 48V electric add-on will assist with acceleration.

In turn, Toyota provides the platform and tech, including many components sourced from the latest-gen GR Yaris.

As for Daihatsu, it is designing the body and the interior. There are no details regarding these so far, but we suspect the Toyota Sport EV Concept shown in the gallery and the video below could be used as the basis.
