Check out a Toyota GR Yaris squeezing supercar power from 1.6 liters

The Toyota GR Yaris caused quite some ripples when it debuted, with people wondering how the company managed to coax 270 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) out of three cylinders and 1.6 liters of turbocharged displacement. No one seriously expected it to be a tuning-friendly mill, yet Powertune Australia smashed through all records with its project.

Around four months ago, this Yaris – nicknamed the Rodent – was dialed up to 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW). You can find a detailed review of it in the attached video, where the car is referred to as a finalized work. Well, apparently, the team never actually stopped working on the project, because another update followed just a few days ago announcing that the car was able to hit the dyno with 751 PS (741 hp / 552 kW).

The tuning shop says dozens of runs were attempted and the results were stable. To put things into perspective, the Rodent is now on par with the newly introduced McLaren 750S in terms of raw performance.

From the technical side, the project involves a single large Garrett turbo, an aftermarket head gasket, custom-designed manifold and intercooler, and an Akrapovic exhaust system, among many other similar mods. The stock transmission was replaced with a sequential one with a reinforced clutch mechanism.

Honestly now, how do you like this Yaris?
