3 cylinders, 1000 horses: This could be the world’s greatest Toyota GR Yaris

The tuning gurus over at LamSpeed Racing have persuaded a GR Yaris to send a thousand horsepower (750 kW) to the wheels. That’s an accomplishment and a half for a car with three cylinders, 1.6 liters of displacement and 261 PS (257 hp / 190 kW) in stock form.

The full scope of modifications is secret, but we do know that the company used some wild boost pressures at higher RPM counts. We are talking 50 psi and more from 7,000 RPM onwards. When tested at the dyno, the hot hatch showed 899 PS (887 hp / 661 kW) and 776 Nm (573 lb-ft) of torque. No measurements were conducted at the crank, but with the wheels getting nine hundred horsepower, the crank must be getting close to 1,000.

LamSpeed plans to put what it styles as the world’s most powerful GR Yaris to a track test soon. We wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out that major transmission modifications are required before it can race. After all, that’s four times the stock power!
